Election tribunal dismisses Omehia's petition against Amaechi

The reconstituted governorship election petition tribunal, on Thursday, dismissed petitions filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Rivers State, Celestine Omehia, as well as that of his party.Omehia and his party had filed petitions against the electoral victory of the Rivers State governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, suing him, his deputy, Tele Ikuru; his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), asking for the nullification of the election.The chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Abdulahi Mohammed Liman, said it based its decision on the dictates of the existing laws, which gives 180 days time limit for the trial of election petitions.
