THE delay in the completion of rehabilitation and expansion work on the Universty College Hospital (UCH) road which stretches to Orita Mefa, Total Garden and Agodi-Gate areas of Ibadan, Oyo State, is now a thing of concern to residents of the area. Not only that, people working in the area have also expressed disatisfaction over what they described as the slow phase of work on the road in recent times. Some members of staff of the University College Hospital (UCH), a popular hotel and petrol stations at the Total Garden area, as well as some teachers at the Orita Mefa Baptist Church and School who spoke with Commnity News wondered why a good work that started at the UCH Gate road some months ago should suddenly got stocked,, stressing that the recent downpour might increase the suffering of the road users as well as pedestrians. When Community News visited Total Garden to guage the feelings of shop owners, residents, commercial vehicle owners who daily ply the road, they expressed displeasure at the slow rate of work on the road, especially in the last four to five months.A petrol attendant in one of the filling stations in the area, who simply identified himsef as Femi said, 'we don't know why the slow tempo of rehabilitation and expansion work on the road. When the work started during the administration of the immedidate past government in the state, people in the area were excited. But only God knows what is presently happening and why the rehabilitation work on the road is now experiencing slow pace,'' he lamented.A physician at the University College Hospital, Dr Tunji Akinyemi said, 'we are even tired of the slow pace of work on the road. How many years would it take them to complete this road' How many kilometers is UCH ' Gate Road that it is taking them methuselah's years to complete' Honestly, everybody using the road is fed up. We are now in raining seaon, we hope they won't begin to tell story that road rehabilitation is not ideal or possible in wet season. Any way, we are waiting for the excuse they would tell us.'For Mrs Bolatito Oluwatobi, who is a nurse, she said time was not only a gold, but a precious money and no serious individual would play with time. 'I think there is the need to tell the construction company handling the road expansion and rehabilitation not to play with time because the road is always busy; and if they have not adequately mobilised the company in terms of fund, the state government should act fast because I trust Governor Abiola Ajimobi, he won't allow any fraud or low quality work on the every-busy road,' she stated.
