LSCA begins registration of Chess4Chess players

Published by Guardian on Wed, 29 Feb 2012

LAGOS State Chess Association (LSCA) has announced the commencement of registration of players for the maiden Chess4Change tournament. The Chess4Change series, which is a platform for discovering, educating and improving chess players in the state, is the brainchild of the recently inaugurated LSCA under the chairmanship of Fela Bank-Olemoh.According to the tournament director, Tokunboh Adebesin, 'this tournament is the first in a series to screen, select and train players who will represent Lagos State at the 2012 National Sports Festival, which the state will host in November.'Adebesin also disclosed that a registration fee of N500 would be paid by players wishing to compete in the tourneyto defray administrative cost. He added: 'LSCA has decided to encourage mass participation in the tournament by pegging the registration fee at just N500, as we want Lagosians of all economic standing to be part of the tourney and by extension, the sports festival.'He further advised prospective participants to register at the LSCA Secretariat at Rowe Park or to register through email with name and phone number to lagoschess@ymail.com. Adebesin explained that one of the advantages of participating in the event is the inclusion of players in the newly introduced LSCA monthly rankings.'The LSCA is fully operational now to handle registrations by direct contact and online. We will be using the tournament to commence the LSCA monthly ranking system, which will be based on points earned from sanctioned tournaments,' Adebesin said. The first Lagos Chess4Change series will hold from March 24 to 26 at the indoor hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
