Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch's WWE Debut Elevates Divas Division

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 17 Jul 2015

Its a great time to be a WWE fan. In fact, its a great time for being a wrestling fan in general. The quality of wrestling has increased considerablyover the past few months. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is the most coveted prize in the business, and the United States title has emerged as the No. 2 title in WWE.Even the tag team division is on the cusp of returning to its glory days. However, in recent times, the Divas division has been lackluster and, quite honestly, an empty canvas.Granted, theres been success in that division. Namely, Nikki Bella is approaching A.J. Lees record for longest-reigning Divas champion, with Bella at 236 days and Lee at 295.Paige also became the youngest Divas champion in history, but not much else has happened in the past two years. Well, not much has occurred on the main roster at least.NXT is a different story. Their womens division matches redefined womens wrestling. Paige became their inaugural champion, followed by Charlotte Flair, who took over with a successful reign. Subsequently, Sasha Banks ended Flairs reign and has carried the title with pride since.More NXT women succeeded with momentum, as Becky Lynch and Bayley emerged as true faces for the brand. And on the July 13 episode of Raw,when Stephanie McMahon introduced Charlotte, Banks and Lynch to the main roster, a shift occurred in the Divas division. This was the shot in the arm that the division desperately needed. In fact, this wasnt an invasion but the arrival of a new and improved Divas division. The debuts of Charlotte, Banks and Lynch have elevated the Divas division. After McMahon announced all three, it was a brawl for all. Banks sided with Naomi and Tamina, while Charlotte and Lynch joined forces with Paige. The brawl culminated with all three NXT women putting their patented submissions on each member of Team Bella. Charlotte put the Figure Eightleg lock on Alicia Fox. Becky applied the Dis-arm-herarmbar on Brie Bella, and Banks slapped the Bank Statement on Nikki Bella. All three made their victims tap, and the crowd roared in appreciation. If you havent heard of any of these ladies, youre in for a treat.Charlotte has paid tribute to her father, Ric Flair, by modifying his signature submission maneuver. But thats where the similarities to her fathers style stop. Shes evolved into a complete wrestler, dominating her opponents with her wrestling alone.Lynch is the scrapper of the group. She hasnt made the most noise of the three, but she's coming off a fantastic bout against Banks for the NXT Womens Championship. She came up short but won the crowds respect that night.Banks, the current NXTwomens champion, has the most attitude of the trio. She backs it up with her agility and ground game. Its a rare package for any wrestler. Period. That brings us to the significance of Monday night. Three women making their debut on the main roster is unprecedented. They gave the Divas division the kick-start it deserved. All three women are far from generic. Each has the personality necessary to rise to recognition and fame.Lately, big strides have occurred in the world of womens athletics, particularly in the Womens World Cup and the UFC. Its the WWEs turn to start its own revolution in the Divas division, and Charlotte, Banks and Lynch will be the driving force behind it.
