DETERMINED to regain its lost glory in the Nigerian sports circle, the Bauchi State government has reiterated its commitment to improving the existence sporting facilities in the state, even as the state will continue to do everything possible to ensure that its athletes excel in various competitions.This was stated by the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Sports Council, Alhaji Tanimu Sa'idu, while receiving the newly-posted zonal coordinator of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhaji Umar Talba Shua, in his office recently.Sa'idu informed that Governor Isa Yuguda had directed experts to inspect some dilapidated sporting facilities in the state with a view to altimately renovating them, adding that the governor was raelly committed to improving sporting facilities in the state.He said that the essence of improving the facilities, including the multi-purpose indoor sports hall, swimming pool complex and the Games Village, all in Bauchi was to provide conducive atmosphere for the state athletes to train in preparation for not only the forthcoming National Sports Festival to be hosted by Lagos State later in the year but also to enable them have the best facilities to work with all the time.While wishing the new zonal co-ordinator of a successful tenure in office, the chairman assure him of the state government and the council's cooperation to ensure that he embark on the assignmenty before him diligently.Speaking erarlier, the new zonal coordinator said he was at the council to formally introduce himself, adding that his coming to the zone was part of the NSC's new police trust of improving sports in the country right from the grass-roots level.He noted that there was the urgent need for Nigeria to replace its ageing athletes, adding that to do this, new talent, which were abundant in the country, ought to be discovered right from the grass roots.He, therefore, solicited the support of the Bauchi State Sports Council in the discharge his responsibilities, noting that it was high time for all stakeholders to come together to move sports forward in the country.
