Published by Tribune on Mon, 05 Mar 2012

AWO community in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, has said that no new road has been constructed in the area while old roads, particularly the Awo Garage-Okakele road, Ojuwo-Akpali-Awo Akukunda road and Akpolokuta-Akukunda road, have not been rehabilitated by the state government. The National Chairman of the community, Mr Robert Agagwu, while speaking with Community News, noted that the neglect of Awo which shares boundary with Benue State has exposed the level of under development in Kogi, noting that the nearest villages in Benue, close to Awo, have electricity and other social amenities. He called on the state government to embark on rehabilitating the roads where food items were transported to the market to help the peasant farmers so that the area would not give wrong impressions to the Idomas in Benue State, sharing the same boundary with Awo community in Kogi, about the development in Kogi State.Agagwu further stated that the present government should not follow the footsteps of previous administrations in the state which failed to recognise the plight of the people. The community also lamented its marginalisation in the political and social scheme of things, since the creation of the state in 1991.He said since the creation of the state, 21 years ago, no Awo man or woman had emerged commissioner or special adviser in the state.Mr Agagwu further stated that no Awo indigene has assumed chairmanship position of any commission and were equally denied other positions in government, stating that 'when they need the votes of the people they come around only to be forgotten as soon as they assumed the seat.
