The Guardian's Oliomogbe is Delta's Best Journalist

THE GUARDIAN Correspondent in Delta State, Mr. Hendrix Oliomogbe, last Tuesday night in Asaba emerged the Best Print Journalist of the state for 2012.Organised by the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the award presentation ceremony saw Oliomogbe beating The Vanguard South-South Regional Editor, Mr. Emmanuel Amaize and Mr. Victor Efeizomor of ThisDay to emerge winner while Mr. Cyril Madugba of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) emerged as the winner in the electronic media category.Tagged Delta Award for Media Achievement (DAMA) 2012, Oliomogbe's winning entries were two stories from the stable of The Guardian on Sunday, which were adjudged as the best at the ceremony which paraded the cream of the industry in the state.The first story which was published on November 20 and titled DELTA: After Round Seven, Battle Not Over narrated the long legal tussle between incumbent Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and his resolute opponent, Chief Great Ogboru of the opposition Democratic People's Party (DPP).According to the panel of Judges made up of eminent journalists, the second winning entry, which was published on December 25, is about the first female military officer in the Nigeria Army, former Capt. Josephine Okwuekeleke Tolefe.At the award ceremony, former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Patrick 'Igodomigodo' Obahiagbon who was the keynote speaker encouraged journalists to be fearless as the watchdog of the Nigerian society, a role which is supported by Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution.On his part, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chike Ogeah, said that the state government was ever ready to support the aspiration of journalists in the state while the Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Norbert Chiazor promised that the award would henceforth be an annual event.
