Published by Guardian on Mon, 05 Mar 2012

KWARA State governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has urged religious faithful in the state to embrace communal relationship for a peaceful and harmonious society irrespective of their faith..For Ahmed, no individual could survive on earth to the exclusion of others, noting that God wanted the concept of dependency to engender peace, love and unity. The governor, who assured the people of equitable treatment, made this remark at the weekend in Ilorin while receiving the year 2011 Hajji report.Ahmed pledged that the government would not relent in its commitment to providing quality services to all pilgrims from the state. .He stated: 'Religion is not only about peace with our Creator, but also about harmony with neighbours, irrespective of religious leanings. For a greater and better Nigeria, we all must learn to be agents of peace as no religion preaches violence'.The governor informed the board members that efforts were at advance stage to transform the board into a commission in line with the directives of the National Hajji Commission. .In order to enhance better service delivery, according to Ahmed, while 'efforts will be intensified to provide more conducive working environment, the government shall also improve on the welfare package for the workers while in the Holy Land'. .In his remark, Chairman, Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims' Welfare Board, Imam Usman Sulaiman Olosun, disclosed that a male pilgrim died during the 2011 Hajj, out of the 2,704 pilgrims from the state.
