Lagos schools excel in BRF quiz competition

CONSISTENT efforts by the Lagos State government to bring back good standard into its public school system yielded another good result at the just concluded grand finale of the Brighter Rewarding Future (BRF) Quiz competition held in Lagos. After the keenly contested final, during which the pupils were tested in English Language, Mathematics, Current Affairs, Social Studies and Science, Ayomide Adedanmoye and Jane Orji from Oluwalogbon Primary school, Ketu, emerged first in the primary category. Akasoro Ibrahim and Okafor Emeka from Penny International School, Aguda, Lagos, clinched the second position.       In the junior secondary category, Yinusa Sodiq and Adepeju Kaosarat from Eko Akete Junior Secondary School came first, while Onakoya Eniola and Ajakaiye Paul from Vetland Junior Grammar School came second. But the ultimate duel in the Senior Secondary Schools category produced Anya Kenneth and Ukachukwu Emeka from Penny International College, Aguda as the winner. Adesina Adesoji and Paul Franklin from Ansar-Ud-Deen Comprehensive High School, Okota were the runner up. Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Sarah Adebisi Sosan affirmed that the competition had helped to improve academic standards in the state. According to her, the competition has also encouraged students to develop quick thinking, promote healthy rivalry and confidence building for a brighter and rewarding future. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo in her remarks, disclosed that a total of 1,411 schools made up of 645 public and 207 private primary schools, 246 public and 23 private junior secondary schools, as well as, 252 public and 38 private senior secondary schools registered for the competition. Since its debut in 2009, she noted that the competition had continued to generate great interest among various schools.
