Published by Tribune on Mon, 11 Apr 2011

The Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (retd.), has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will evolve new security measures to tackle the rising spate of bombings in the country.Olubolade, who condemned Fridays bombing of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Suleja, Niger State in which many people were killed, blamed people he said were desperate politicians for the trend in Nigeria. The minister, who addressed newsmen at his Ipoti Ekiti home in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State during a sensitisation visit to the electorate in the area ahead of Saturdays presidential election, said perpetrators of such acts were those used to the culture of violence and criminality. He said the Federal Government would arrest the situation in due course, pointing out that security agencies in the country would be empowered with all necessary equipment to ensure that the act was arrested.Olubolade said, President Goodluck Jonathan is not a lover of do-or-die politics. Desperate politicians are behind all these and we will stop them at all costs. Nobody should think that bombing will dissuade Nigerians from voting.According to him, I know that the president has been doing wonderfully well to ensure that Nigeria is saved for everybody. We will curtail these evil doers and their activities, adding that, I want to assure you that Nigerians will vote for only those that are credible, not criminals who do not have the love of the people and the nation at heart.Olubolade also tasked security agencies in the country, saying the time had come for them to rise to the challenge and tackle the menace of terrorism and bombing in the country. He charged Nigerians to rise against any government official that terrorises them with government apparatus during the elections, saying nobody would be allowed to stand in the way of President Jonathan in delivering his promises of conducting free and fair elections for the nation.Olubolade said no government official has the right to go about during election and whoever does that should be embarrassed no matter how highly placed. The law of the land is greater than all of us. I expect every government official to join Mr. President in spreading the gospel of free, fair, credible and acceptable elections. Nigerians must get it right in 2011 and whoever that is trying to constitute a cog in the wheel of the INEC will be dealt with.He pointed out that the Federal Government had expended huge resources on the conduct of this years elections, saying nobody would be allowed to rubbish the electoral process and the integrity of the nation in the eyes of the international community.
