Weve lived enough with broken promises - Awodiora residents

Published by Tribune on Mon, 11 Apr 2011

Residents of Awodiora, especially those on Jane Igbe Street in Orege area of Ajegunle in Ifelodun/Ajeromi Local Government Council Area of  Lagos State, have accused the state government of total neglect. The residents also said that every promise of government in the area of dividends of democracy to the people was still a mirage, just as the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola was coming to an end.Speaking with Community News recently, Madam Promise Inukuba said there was no presence of government in the Awodiora community of Ajegunle, saying the only thing which they had come to know in the area was how to live with broken promises of the people in power.According to her, the only time we felt the impact of governance in the community was when the Alusa people came to help reconstruct the canal channelling water through the community, but this has been abandoned in the last two years. She said, all the government promises to help drain the canal and eradicate all the dirts, especially at a place called Pako bridge, have not been met. When it rains, the whole place is usually flooded. They have destroyed many peoples houses with the hope that they would tar the road and build a better canal for us, but up till now, the promise has not been kept. They should fulfil their promises, because that is the only thing that can immune them from the curses people are placing on them, she added.Another resident, who claimed he had lived in Awodiora in the last 10 years, Mr Joshua Esien, said when there were houses on top of the canal, it was better for the residents in the area, because the street was still ok by then.  The worse came when they demolished peoples houses thereby frustrating innocent old men and women who had used their life earnings to build those houses.Esien said the issue of doing half project in Lagos should be stopped, noting that it was not helping the residents. If they promise to do a thing, they should accomplish it in record time as this will enable the people to have a sense of belonging.
