Published by Tribune on Mon, 11 Apr 2011

YOUTHS in the country have been advised not to turn themselves into willing tools in the hands of politicians who may want to use them for negative activities capable of hindering the peaceful conduct of this years general election.A senior lecturer at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State,  Dr Kunle  Adediji, gave the advice in Ipetu-Ijesha during the debate organised for  candidates eyeing  Oriade constituency seat in Osun State House of Assembly by  a group known as the Concerned Indigenes of Ipetu-Ijesha.Adediji, who is an Ipetu-Ijesha indigene, admonished youths in the country to shun acts of violence, adding  that violence could never be a means to permanent peace. It is  clear that opting for violence cannot achieve positive results as it could only worsen situation and destroy the future of the youths that get involved in such odd activities, he said. The two candidates that were present at the debate, Barrister M.B.O. Ibraheem of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Professor Dayo Akinmoladun assured stakeholders in the community of  peaceful and rancour-free election, while also  promising to ensure a peaceful post-election period. The ACN candidate, Barrister Ibraheem, promised to work for the creation of a new local government,  sponsor  remedial classes to support senior secondary school students. The Labour Partys candidate, Akinmoladun,  said, if given the chance to represent Oriade state constituency at the state House of Assembly, he would provide employment opportunities for both literates and the artisans.Earlier in his address, the President of the association, Tajudeen Alege said the programme, aside from providing avenue for candidates to present their programmes, was also designed to afford the stakeholders in the community the opportunity of securing promises from the candidates.
