Make land available for projects, communities told

Published by Tribune on Mon, 11 Apr 2011

Community Leaders in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State  have been advised to always make land  available for development  projects allocated  to the area.Giving  the  advice recently was Honourable Abiodun Akinlade, the chairman,  House committee on Science and Technology   at the Federal House of Representatives. Some of the  communities  include, Owode, Erinje, Ilaro  Apite, Oke Ode, among others. He explained that non-provision of lands by community  considered for development  projects meant for the area by the government, was usually  responsible for the dearth of development or lack of federal government presence  in some areas.Akinlade gave an instance where he had to use his personal income to buy a land for a project  to be sited in one of the  communities in the  area. As  the chairman of House  Committee on  Science and Technology, I used my influence to secure a project from the Ministry of Science and Technology to be sited in one of the  communities in my constituency, but I was surprised when I was told that there was no land for the project. There are two of such projects in the country. One is in Balyesa State while I got the other one for Ogun State and I made sure it was sited in my constituency. I had to spend my personal money to get a land for the project to Take off. I paid N7 million for the land. If I had failed to pay, the project would have been taken to another area, he said.He advised traditional rulers to always make land available for government whenever it planned to site a project in their domain.
