Ibese host communities promise cooperation with Dangote Cement

Published by Tribune on Mon, 12 Mar 2012

Following the successful commissioning of the new six million metric ton per annum Ibese Cement Plant by President Goodluck Jonathan, host communities have promised to give maximum cooperation to Dangote Cement management to ensure the plant runs smoothly and profitably. The communities affirmed that siting the cement plant in their area was a lifetime opportunity and they would do all within their power to ensure that both the hosts and the plant exist peacefully.Speaking on behalf of the 14 host communities, Dr Hezekiah Idowu, explained that the entire Yewa land was very appreciative of Alhaji Aliko Dangote's gesture and would reciprocate by making sure the company operates without any hassles.According to him, it was unconceivable years ago that Ibese and its environs would be located in the world map but that the existence of abundant limestone and the decision by the foremost entrepreneur to site his plant in the area has re-written the history of the ancient town and the adjourning communities. With the commencement of cement production at the plant and the expected in-flow of businesses within thecommunities, the community leaders said; 'what else can we do than to ensure peace and tranquility reign for the company to prosper because our sons and daughters also have a stake as they have job opportunities now.'He further explained that the irreducible minimum that the communities could give to show appreciation for the establishment of the Dangote Cement Plant was to ensure an harmonious relationship exists between the host communities and the cement company. He stated that all groups, traditional rulers and the youths in the 14 host communities had met and agreed that they would do all within their power to see that the cement plant operates in an atmosphere of peace.Idowu recalled the efforts made by the communities to attract investors to the area to explore the mineral resources without success until Dangote was contacted and promptly moved in to assess the area and commenced the process of building the plant.According to him, all the traditional rulers in the host communities have met and cautioned their people against doing anything that will have negative impact on the cement plant because it has become a joint heritage that needs to be protected. In the same vein stakeholders and guests who were at the inauguration, commended Alhaji Dangote for the new plant, describing him as a trail blazer in the nation's industrial development.
