PDP stalwart, Daboh, dies in Abuja

IT was yet another tragedy as Benue State-born politician and stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Godwin Daboh, was, on Thursday, confirmed dead.The 70-year-old politician died at the Garki Hospital, Abuja.The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr John Olagunju, confirmed the death to a news agency in Abuja.The late Daboh was one of the contributors to the emergence of Dr Goodluck Jonathan as president in the April 16 presidential election.He was former national treasurer, PDP; deputy coordinator, Concerned PDP Elders for Jonathan/Sambo; national chairman, Concerned Nigerians for IBB and national chairman, Benue State Elders Forum.The Benue-born politician made his first entry into politics in 1957, when he became a member of the United Middle Belt Congress (UMBC). He was subsequently a chieftain of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday, expressed shock over the death of Chief Daboh.Jonathan, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Dr Reuben Abati, described Daboh as 'a very active man who was not afraid to stand firmly for the principles in which he believed.'Also, Senate President, David Mark, described Daboh's death as a huge loss to the political class and the Nigerian nation in general.
