Urhoabo youths petition Jonathan over oil block allocations

Published by Tribune on Fri, 16 Mar 2012

Angry Urhobo youths on Tuesday requested President Goodluck Jonathan to cancel oil block allocations, oil lifting right allocations and petroleum products importation licenses which they said were lopsided and in favour of some prominent people from the Northern parts of the country and their allies from in the South West and South East geo-political zones.Acting under the platform of Urhobo Youth Assembly, they said the request became necessary following revelations in media publications that exposed the rots, one sided allocations of oil blocks, oil lifting rights allocations and petroleum products importation licences issued by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).They contended in the petition to President Goodluck Jonathan and signed by Comrade Jude Akpore, President; Comrade Frank Onogagamue, Secretary; and Comrade Akpobaro Umukoro, spokesman, respectively that from the media publications it was clear that all the juicy allocations were given to the Northerns, South West and the South East geo-political zones at the detriment of the actual producers , the South-South region whose oil and gas production has continuously oiled the economic wheel of the nation.'After a careful study of the publication and at an enlarged meeting of the Urhobo Youth Assembly, it became necessary to emphasis the contribution of Urhobo people to national oil reserve as we produce not less than 20 per cent from 13 oil flow stations spread in the Delta Central local government areas of Ethiope West, Ethiope East, Sapele, Okpe, Ughelli South, Ughelli North and Udu local government council,' the youths said. The Urhobo youths, therefore, urged President Jonathan, as an apostle of peace, equity, justice and fair play, to urgently direct the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the NNPC to cancel, without further delay, all the oil block allocations, oil lifting rights licences that were given out without consideration to the oil and gas producers and other geo-political zones in the country. They also requested the President to order for immediate and equitable distribution of these rights and privileges based on geo-political zones as obtainable in the distribution of political offices and appointments of ministers representing federal character.'That except such directives and investigation are urgently carried out, we very much believe that there are greater atrocities that have been committed by these few selfish individuals to the detriment of the corporate entity of our great nation Nigeria', the Urhobo youths contended. They said that their demands were in line with their social rights and privileges as major contributors to the Petrol dollars economic of the nation adding that the group would do everything within its constitutional power to legally seek redress from the unwarranted assaults on 'our nation economic by some few individuals if our demands are not given the needed attention.
