SSANU condemns bomb blasts, commends Jonathan , INEC over elections

Published by Tribune on Wed, 13 Apr 2011

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has condemned the bomb blast in Suleja, Kaduna and Maiduguri, and the killing of innocent Nigerians who were performing their national assignment.SSANU, who also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Presidenr Goodluck Jonathan for the free and fare election witnessed during the National Assembly elections in the country, said the action of  politicians who are afraid of losing elections and resort to killing of innocent person should be condemned. In a statement signed by SSANU President, Barrister Promise Adewusi, who also is the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the union said those behind the dastardly act should be fished out and made to answer the law.Besides, he said the Federal Government should ensure full compensation to all the victims of the isolated violence.Barrister Adewusi said: It may be too early to conclude but the emerging trend in the NASS results announced so far suggest that Nigerians are moving away from voting for political parties to voting for personalities with antecedents of service. This is heart-warming as it will sound the death knell on the debilitating band wagon effect and money politics. It will usher in an era of viable opposition to allow those of us in labour concentrate more on the direct welfare of our members. This is also a positive indication that Nigeria is on the right part to achieving credible elections. The unfortunate criminal acts in Maiduguri, Kaduna and Suleja of those spent politicians who are afraid of losing elections show that such cowards are living in the past. They should be told in clear terms by making them answer the law that Nigeria has moved on. May God grant all those innocent Nigerians who lost their lives eternal rest while granting the wounded speedy recovery. The Federal Government of Nigeria should ensure full compensation to all the victims of the isolated violence. So far, its kudos to INEC and the President of this country to allow for free, fair and credible elections.
