LG boss pledges support for gov

The chairman of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, Honourable James Aduko, has said that contrary to the negative insinuations being carried about by some people, the people of the area love Governor Rotimi Amaechi and want him to carry on his various developmental initiatives in the area.Aduko,  who spoke at the weekend, said what Amaechi had done in the area in the past three years was monumental and commendable.The chairman cited land reclamation, modern health centres, roads and drainages construction, including granting scholarship to indigent students of the area to study abroad, among others, as some of the achievements of the governor in the area.The council boss said his administration would complement the efforts of the governor in bringing dividends of democracy to the people within his short stay in office.On his immediate priority, Aduko said he planned to build a police staff quarters, stressing that since he mounted the saddle of leadership following the resignation of the former chairman, Tamunokro Oba, he had received unprecedented support.He also promised to complement the effort of the governor in the area by ensuring that ongoing local government projects were completed, while assuring that he would sustain  peace in the area.Also speaking, a former head of the council, Ibibia Walter, urged the people to embrace dialogue in settling the controversies arising from the planned demolition of structures in the area.He said contrary to what media reported on the visit by one of their daughters and wife of the president, Mrs Patience Jonathan, to the area recently, the First Lady urged the people to dialogue with the government to develop their area.Walter, enumerating the numerous benefits of waterfront demolition to the Okrika people, added that those who supported the initiative wanted good for the people.The First Lady actually suggested dialogue.  Every reasonable Okrika man knows that demolition of waterfronts is for development, and Okrika people love development. Demolition is well thought out. It will boost tourism.  Of course you know that in most advanced countries, the coastal areas are the most beautiful areas, he stressed.
