In an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," the former Arkansas governor argued that the Paraguayan government's refusal to allow an abortion for the now-11-year-old, who gave birth last weekafter being raped by her stepfather, prevented a second tragedy. Paraguay law allows abortion only in very rare cases when its deemed necessary to save a womans life, ThinkProgress noted. Huckabee has taken a firm stance against abortion and suggested last month that he wouldn't rule out using federal troopsto stop women from accessing the procedure. He also identifies with a small group of conservative legal scholars who believe the Constitution gives the president the power to outlaw abortion, despite the Supreme Court's many rulings on the matter.
