PGA Championship 2015 Leaderboard: Latest Scores and Standings from Sunday

Published by Bleacher Report on Sun, 16 Aug 2015

Jason Day survived the storms and rallies from his peers to enter Sunday as the leader at the 2015 PGA Championship.Despite the world-class form in the face of adversity at the season's final major, this iteration at Whistling Straits, Day will need to continue his epic tear to hold off a surging Jordan Spieth, former champion Martin Kaymer and others. With the final round in its early throes, here's a look at an updating leaderboard:Day serves as the model for how to get things done at the tournament, which should have been apparent right away when he announced his arrival with an eagle on No. 2 in Round 1.He shot a 68 there, then improved in each of the next two rounds, with a 67 in the second and a 66 in the third, including an eagle on No. 11. Perhaps most impressive was the fact that inclement weather interrupted his second round, but he finished it out Saturday morning before his epic third round."One more day left," Day said, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press (via PGA.com). "I got to keep pushing forward, keep grinding, keep doing the best I can out there and see how it goes tomorrow."Day's confidence isn't hard to see, as the PGA Tour captured:He's not the only golfer feeling great or continuing to improve as he goes, though.Spieth started out sloppy with a 71 in the opening round, then turned it around with a 67 in Round 2. It was an epic, albeit expected, recovery for a guy who has won two majors this year and almost won a third. In other words, a bogey-free 65 in Round 3 with seven birdies wasn't much of a shock, catapulting Spieth up to 13 under par and two shots off Day's lead.Of course, others will have a say in the Day-Spieth narrative. Look at Branden Grace, who sits just one shot behind Spieth. After getting cut at the Masters, Grace exploded for a tie for fourth at the U.S. Open, and it's momentum the South African star still clutches.Credit Grace as another who continues to improve as the tournament goes on, with a 71, 69, 64 scorecard through the first three rounds, the last mark the result of a bogey-free Round 3. He's also one of the most confident:Justin Rose entered Sunday tied with Grace thanks to a 69, 67, 68 path, but perhaps most interesting is the aforementioned Kaymer.Kaymer sits at 11 under par, just one shot off Grace and Rose. He looked like a bit of an afterthought through the first two rounds thanks to a pair of 70s, but he too then turned it on Saturday for seven birdies and zero gaffes on the scorecard, giving him a 65.He spoke with USA Today's Steve DiMeglio about his success and love for the course:I'm just glad that I put myself in a position to maybe have a chance tomorrow. It's such an interesting golf course. If you don't hit the ball well, you can shoot easily 75, 76. But if you hit fairways and make a couple of putts here or there, you can shoot a good score. And the greens are perfect. So if you place yourself on the fairway, you can be very aggressive with your iron shots. And if you're a good putter, you know, it's not up to the green, it's all up to yourself.Kaymer's love for Whistling Straits isn't hard to understand considering he won this tournament the last time the venue in Wisconsin played host. With him in striking distance, a repeat performance isn't out of the question.A few other interesting names rest a tad further down the board. Dustin Johnson deserves credit for avoiding a complete collapseas has been his reputation this year once the weekend hitsand sits at nine under par. Matt Jones sparred for the lead Saturday before succumbing to a 73, but he still sits in range at 10 under par. There's a clear heavyweight struggle unfolding Sunday, but as one can see from the standings entering the final round, there are plenty of willing and able party crashers lurking in the background. It's the perfect send-off to major season. The winner will deserve it, without question.Stats and info courtesy of PGATour.com unless otherwise specified.
