While he hasn't advanced past the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam this year, he certainly would have been expected to be a factor at the U.S. Open in two weeks.Now, however, the concern will be thatNishikori's injury could potentially keep him out of that tournament. Skipping the Western and Southern Open may simply be a precautionary measure so thatNishikori is ready to go for the U.S. Open, which would be the best-case scenario for one of the few players capable of wrestling a Grand Slam title away from the Big Four of Murray, Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
