Akande tasks NSC on grassroots sports

FOUNDER, Splash 105.5 FM, Chief Adebayo Akande, has called on the National Sports Commission (NSC), to redirect focus on grassroots sports development to arrest the dwindling trend in the sector.Chief Akande said this at the fourth edition of Splash FM/ICPC Integrity Marathon Race 2012 held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan on Sunday, calling on the NSC and the Oyo State government to tap the raw talent abound at the grassroots with a view to lifting the country's sports from the mess of degradation.''It is a fact that Nigeria's glory in sporting achievements has dimmed but this can be rekindled through grassroots competitions. This is why I am appealing to the National Sports Commission as well as the Sports authorities in Oyo State to organise sporting competitions among primary, secondary and tertiary institutions to identify and groom budding athletes,'' he said.He appealed to well meaning interests, groups and individuals to join hands in Splash FM to take Integrity Marathon Race, meant to fight corruption, to greater heights.''The Splash FM Integrity Race is one for good governance, accountability and transparency in governance, hence I appeal to all to join us in fighting corruption in our society.
