Arsenal Reportedly Worth over 1 Billion: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 26 Aug 2015

A new study has revealed Arsenal sits as the second-most valuable club in the Premier League, boasting a worth of over 1 billion that puts it second only to Manchester United, valued at 1.848 billion. That's according to football finance expert Dr. Tom Markham, who has given the Gunners a market value of 1.118 billion, taking into account how much the club earns, how much it spends, stadium capacity and other factors:According toVaishali Bhardwaj of the London Evening Standard, wage bill and a club's assets are also variables that alter a club's worth, with the Gunners reportedly boasting a 19 per cent increase in value over the past two years. It's well-founded Arsenal operates on a more stringent financial policy than some of its Premier League peers, withFourFourTwo's Sam Pilger noting the difference between the club and Manchester City in the transfer market:Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea has seen an even greater increase in value over the past two years, rising by 38 per cent to its current 826 million worth, placing it fourth among Premier League clubs.Arsenal hasn't won a Premier League title since 2004, but the signings of big-money stars such as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in recent years have helped the team claim back-to-back FA Cup titles. The 60,000-capacity Emirates Stadium has helped Arsenal claim an advantage over Chelsea, but it's thought the Blues' plans to renovate Stamford Bridge into a 60,000-seat stadium of its own will bring the two clubs closer. For now, Arsenal reigns as London's heaviest hitter in a financial sense, but perhaps manager Arsene Wenger would trade those bragging rights in for one more Premier League crown.
