It's going to be tough for Eagles - Keshi

Published by Tribune on Tue, 27 Mar 2012

SUPER Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has admitted that the team faces a very tough schedule in June, when they play three straight qualifying games. The Eagles will first host Namibia in a World Cup qualifier on June 2 and a week later travel to take on Malawi inyet another World Cup qualifier. And on June 16, they will tackle Rwanda in the second leg match of a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. The first leg finished goalless in Kigali in February. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is studying a proposal for the team to take on African champions Egypt early next month in Abu Dhabi and Keshi said it would be a great idea to keep his team in shape for a 'tough' June.'The month of June is going to be tough because we have three games in three weeks,' Keshi said.'Playing Egypt in a friendly would be a good thing because it's all about preparing the team, exposing them as much as we can.' Keshi has also disclosed that he would make an official request to the NFF over getting Bayer Leverkusen winger Sydney Sam to feature for Nigeria.'I will write officially to request that the NFF pursue and convince Sydney to play for Nigeria since the NFF said I have not made an official request,' he said.Keshi further said that he would continue his policy of having a mixture of both foreign and home based players.'I have heard people say I should have used only home based for our last game against Rwanda. I sincerely want to state it clearly, I will remain with my present policy. They are all Nigerians and if I feel a player is good enough and fits my plans for a game, then I would invite him regardless of where that player plays.
