Marco Reus Injury: Updates on Borussia Dortmund Star's Toe and Return

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 03 Sep 2015

Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is set to miss out on Germany's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Poland and Scotland due to a toe injury.Continue for updates.Reus Suffers Another SetbackThursday, Sept. 3The German football association announced the news on Thursday via the national's team's official Twitter account, confirming Reus will miss both matches:According to DW Sports, he suffered the problem during the match against Hertha Berlin, and it's unclear how severe the damage is.The 26-year-old forward has struggled with injuries during the past two seasons, suffering a number of serious ankle injuries that sidelined him for a significant amount of time, per Transfermarkt.co.uk.He missed out on the 2014 World Cup as a result and couldn't save Dortmund during their disastrous 2014-15 campaign, which saw Die Schwarzgelben fail to qualify for the 2015-16 Champions League.Bundesliga blogger Clark Whitney tried to see the positive side of this latest setback:Reus has started the new season in fantastic form, scoring six goals across all competitions, perWhoScored.com. With their star forward once again healthy and productive, Borussia have exploded out of the starting blocks under new manager Thomas Tuchel.Losing Reus for a significant amount of time would be a disaster, although the team seems better equipped to deal with his absence than they did last year. HenrikhMkhitaryan appears to be finally living up to his potential, and the Armenian should be able to carry much of the scoring load if his current form holds.Germany sit in second place in Group D, one point behind Poland and two ahead of Scotland. While the current world champions are widely expected to qualify for Euro 2016, the upcoming fixtures are vitally important, with just two matches remaining after this double-header.Die Mannschaft will host Poland on Friday, September 4, before traveling to Glasgow to play Scotland three days later.
