Presidential poll: FG closes land borders, restricts vehicular movement

THE Federal Government has closed all its land borders until the conduct of the presidential election holding tomorrow to forestall any form of security breach during the exercise.Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, said the government had directed that all land borders be closed from 6.00 p.m. yesterday (Thursday) 14 April, 2011 to 6.00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011.This, according to him, was to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free conduct of the 2011 presidential election.The statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Sheidu Ozigis, said vehicular movements had also been restricted nationwide from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on the election day.Ihenacho said only vehicles conveying INEC staff and security operatives specially assigned for election duties as well as those on essential and emergency duties, would be allowed to ply the roads.He urged all Nigerians to ensure, peaceful, smooth and successful conduct of the election.
