Oyo NUT condemns attack on teachers

THE Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State, has condemned the attack on teachers of Community Grammar School, Kudeti and Yejide Girls Grammar School Molete, in Ibadan, recently.This was contained in a press statement issued and signed by the state chairman of the NUT, J.O. Babatunde and the acting secretary, S.W. Olojede and made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, adding that the attack by hoodlums which prevented the entire school from carrying out normal academic routine was quite unfortunate.The release said that it was painful that many teachers were brutally injured and dehumanised while five vehicles belonging to the teachers were also vandalised, saying that similar attack was carried out on the teachers of St. Peters School I, Aremo, Ibadan early this year.It is unfortunate and worrisome that teachers today have become perennially enemies of hoodlums for baseless attacks only because they suffer no restriction and opposition in the conduct of their nefarious act, it said.While commending the state government for its intervention in the matter, the NUT appealed for urgent investigation through appropriate security agencies to unearth the cause of the attack and urged government to provide adequate insurance and other social security covers for its members.
