We want drainage, Agarawu, ILO residents cry out

Published by Tribune on Fri, 15 Apr 2011

Residents  of Agarawu ,ILO and NITEL areas  of Sango Ota in Ado Odo  Local Government  in Ogun State  have  called on the authority of the local   government and the Ogun State government  to construct drainage  in their  communities .The residents  stated that there  was no single drainage  system in their communities and that this makes it impossible  for water to flow freely during rainy season. Some of the residents also complained that  their individual efforts at trying to make shallow  gutters for passage of water had failed in the past , as the gutter were easily filled with erosion .Sakiru Aina , a resident of Agaeawu  Park area of ILOAwela  Road,    informed the Community News that  the best thing that government could do to the people of the area was to construct drainage system , for them.According to himWe are not expecting any other thing from government at this point in time other than  to give us good drainage system  which will help channel   the stagnant water away from our road.He added that Anytime it rains  , the whole of the area becomes water-logged and the road becomes impassable as everywhere becomes muddy , thereby making movement difficult. The resident also stated that  the landlord  association in the area had, at different times in the past,  organised themselves to  drill shallow passage ways for the water,  but  the ways always got filled up with sand.A residents of NITEL , who identified himself simply as  Taiwo  stated that the abandoned  construction work on the ILO Awela road  had left them with more pains and    agonies.Taiwo stated that,  There was a time the state government began work on the dualisation  of this road . They demolished some buildings and blocked the existing water passage. She further added that  It was to our surprise, that they abandoned  the project without  creating a new passage for water. She, however, appealed to the state government to  save  not only the residents of the area, but thousands of people, who, on daily  basis, use the road, by  at least constructing  drainage system, if they cannot complete the road.
