Published by Tribune on Fri, 15 Apr 2011

Indigenes of Ikole Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State have said that roads in the community need urgent rehabilitation as a means of boosting food security in the local government area and the entire state. This, they said, was necessary while the people of the area await the outcome of the controversy surrounding the location of the Federal university meant for the state as it involves Ikole community. An indigene of the town, Mr. Adewale Adekanbi, spoke with Community News in Ado-Ekiti when the people of the town accompanied the new traditional ruler of the town to the Governors Office, where the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, gave the new ruler, Prince Adewumi Ajibade Fashiku, instruments of office.Adekanbi said the people were hoping that the Federal Government would eventually locate its university in the town, adding that before that happened, some of the roads in the community would need rehabilitation. He said the farmers in the hinterland would find it easier to convey food to the urban areas, thereby reducing cost of food in the town and other parts of the state.Adekanbi lauded the state government for the steps taken so far to ensure peace and harmony in the state.According to him, the instrument of office given to the oba-elect, Prince Adewumi Fashiku, soon after his selection by the relevant authorities, was a step to show the commitment of Governor Fayemi to peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.
