Chief Executive of Ardenil Nigeria Limited and a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Niyi Adeagbo, commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the success of the National Assembly election. He urges INEC not to relent, adding that with outcome of last Saturdays election, his party is set to clinch the gubernatorial seat in Oyo State. He speaks with Sulaimon Olanrewaju. What do you think about the performance of the INEC in the National Assembly electionsI would have to give INEC some credit for the conduct of the elections. I wouldnt call it perfect or excellent though. There were a few hitches here and there, teething problems I would say. But most importantly, I think the attitude is right and that means there is a sincere attempt to get it right. So, they are on the right path.I wont be hasty to give a final verdict until the elections are over. There is a lot of work ahead for them. If they continue on the path they are on right now and learn fast from their mistakes and adapt as they go, then I believe they would have performed excellently and be deserving of all accolades. But lets wait till then. What will you say about the outcome of the elections generally The outcome is mostly satisfactory. People came out and voted, they stood by their votes and made sure it counted. Mostly, the elections were peaceful, free and fair to a considerable extent except in a few hotspots here and there and also in the North where there was widespread unabated underage voting. But overall, I would say Professor Attahiru Jega deserves some credit for the voting system he chose to employ as it has made the electoral process very credible. So now, people can come out and truly elect their leaders. I think the future is very bright for our country.Has your party done wellThe people have spoken. Our party has good antecedents and the people are not blind. People want a better life and they know that is what we have to offer. To this end, they came out and voted out the mediocre governments and voted in the progressives massively. This presents a great burden for our party, because we have to deliver! With great power comes great responsibility. So rather than say we have done well, I will say the people have made their choice. As a young politician, were you able to deliver your constituency I have done my own part in taking the gospel of our great party to the people in my constituency. I have not only talked the talk, I have walked the walk and by my actions the people were convinced that ACN is the party that can deliver them. So its not so much about me delivering, but more about the people making the obvious choice which is the ACN!What are your partys plans for the other elections The party leadership has come up with various strategies to keep up the tempo of the broom revolution sweeping across the land. Obviously there is no time for any respite, because the ruling party is not asleep either. We will keep the flame of ACN burning brightly and keep the electorate informed and focused so that they dont get distracted by the media fanfare and the exchange cash for your future game plan of the PDP and get them to focus on their future and that of their children which the ACN can and will secure. What are your partys chances to winIf the results of the NASS elections are anything to go by, we should have a good shot at the gubernatorial seats in the South-West and some other regions. But these issues are not that simple. Victory in election is not handed out on a platter of gold. You must work hard for it, the people must be constantly reminded of your offer because in the end they are the ones that will make it happen. You must ensure that the saboteurs dont just have a field day. There is just too much at stake. So do we have a chance of winning Yes, but with a lot of hard work. You seem active, what are your plans and expectationsI like to envision an ACN-run government of the people, by the people and for the people. In my constituency, severe underdevelopment is the order of the day. There is no infrastructure, no commerce, in fact no economy! There isnt one single bank in the whole of itesiwaju LGA. I would like to play an active part in bringing development to my people in whatever capacity I am availed in an ACN run environment.
