A BRAND new Toyota Corolla staked as hole-in-one prize on hole four at the recently concluded Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAMF) Golf Tournament has eluded golfers at the event and was eventually returned to the showroom. The tourney, which held at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos at the behest of DOAMF, was in remembrance of Master Daniel Ogechi Akujobi, who lost his life in a ghastly motor accident along Mowe in Ogun State while on his way back to school. The event featured over 100 golfers, including company executives, who strove to outdo one another in order to finish tops. However, at the end of the event, which featured players like Deputy Managing Director of Oando Plc, Omamofe Boy, Managing Partner, Banwo and Ighodalo Law Firm, Asue Ighodalo, and Managing Partner, PricewaterCooper, Uyi Akpata, among others, category one player, Tim Ayomike, carried the day with 69 Nett score.Oluremi Olukoya with 83 gross score came first in that category, while N. K. Khurana ended the tourney with the best prize in the veterans' category after shooting 76 Nett. While Ubong Akpan went home with the nearest to the pin prize on hole six, Dokun Odunsi picked the same on hole 12.Funds raised from the event would be channeled to the foundation's Accident and Emergency (A&E) Centre located close to the accident site in Mowe, among several other health and educational projects. The money raised at its maiden edition was used to upgrade the centre's infrastructure and equipment. The DOAMF Programme Manager, Clare Henshaw, said the choice of golf was because of its capacity to allow over 100 players of various ages and social class, among other things, to actively compete, adding that it has the ability to improve the health condition of the players.According to Henshaw, golfers generally understand the needs of the less-privileged and disadvantaged in the society and are as well in better economic class to support the foundation's course. She promised that this edition would be an improvement on the maiden edition while calling on groups and individuals to key into the foundation's vision to ensure total functionality of the centre's administrative unit.
