Obasanjo's visit to Ladoja, a welcome development for PDP - Olopoeniyan

Published by Tribune on Wed, 04 Apr 2012

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeniyan, has described the visit and intervention of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to see to the coming back of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja into the PDP as a good thing to happen to the party. But Alhaji Olopoeniyan warned that such a move and eventual return of Senator Ladoja must follow the due process and the stipulated laid down rules of the constitution of the party instead of trying to give the entire party structure to him at the expense of faithful party leaders who had worked tirelessly for the progress of the party. The politician from Ibadan North-East Local Government Area of the state who was among the delegates that represented Oyo State at the convention that produced Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led executive, maintained that the return of Senator Ladoja was a welcome development, but advised former President Obasanjo not to be deceived by selfish politicians. He decried the presence of former secretary to the state government, Chief Layiwola Olakojo and others at Senator Ladoja's residence during the visit, saying Olakojo was among other PDP notables, including Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Senator Lekan Balogun, Senator Teslim Folarin, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, Alhaji Azeem Gbolarumi, Chief Raji Rasaki, representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP national level at the state congress at Liberty Stadium that produced the Chief Yinka Taiwo-led executive.'Why is Senator Rashidi Ladoja afraid of congress, if he loves the PDP and want to prove to the world how popular he is, he should have embraced the idea of going for congress instead of demanding for certain percentage of party executive.'The few political offices we have at the National Assembly from Oyo State were made possible through the efforts of former Governor Alao-Akala and Senator Hosea Agboola who delivered their constituencies,' he said. The politician advised President Obasanjo to be wary of some politicians who were just looking for political offices and did not have the interest of the party at heart, saying if they were popular as they claimed to be, the PDP would not have lost in their constituencies during the last election, citing Ibadan South-East and Oyo zone as an example.'If our revered royal father, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III had supported the PDP, we would have won in Oyo,' and this are the same people that created the problem between Alaafin and the government,' he said.
