Africa: See You See Me Berths In Lagos

A CROSS continental exhibition, Africa: See You See Me, featuring the works of 34 renowned photographers, including Nigeria's JD Ojeikhere, US-based Nigerian Andrew Dosumu, George Osodi, Uche Okpa-Iroha, Soibiifa Dokubo and Ologeh Otuke Charles, will open in Lagos on April 5 at the Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos, as part of the Lagos Heritage Festival, which begins Monday. A multi-section exhibition, the collection designed for the LBHF is holding under the theme: The Black Mediterranean: Afro-Italian Narrative.Curated by US-based Art scholar, Professor Awam Amkpa with associate curator, Madala Hilaire (both of New York University), another section of the exhibit will also open formally on April 7 at the Nike Arts Gallery, 2, Elegushi Road, 2nd Roundabout, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lekki, Lagos; and later on April 23 ' May 2 at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos.Also a symposium in support of the exhibition on the theme Visual Culture/Visual Activism will hold at 2.30pm on April 6 at the Centre For Contemporary Art (CCA), 9 McEwen Street, Sabo, Lagos.The symposium will examine Nigeria's contribution to photography, visual culture and cultural activism, and will be attended by African and international photographers, curators, scholars, critics ad journalists, according to the organisers. It will have the octogenarian photographer, JD Ojeikere, as Special Guest of Honour.The exhibition is produced by AFRICA.CONT of Lisbon, Portugal and hosted in Nigeria by Culture Advocates Caucus, CAC with support of Nike Art Centre, Goethe Institut, and CCA. It will be followed by a reception at the same venue.Africa: See You See Me is a touring exhibition that has gone to places like Portugal, Italy, China and is now coming to Africa for the first time.A section of the exhibition titled 'Naija-Italiana'is also featuring as part of the Lagos Black Heritage Festival (LBHF) from April 5 through end of the month.It will proceed to Dakar, Senegal from Nigeria to feature as part of DAK'ART- the biennale of African Art.The participating artists are Marco Ambrosi; Luis Basto; Ologeh Otuke Charles; Matteo Danesin; Delphine Diallo; Soibifaa Dokubo; Andrew Dosunmu; Anirban Duttagupta; Angle Etoundi Essamba; Ins Gonalves; Mamouna Guerresi; Hassan Hajjaj; Lyle Ashton Harris; Uche Okpa Iroha; Seydou Keita; Majida Khattari; Kilunaje Liberdade; Stanley Lumax; Mamadou M'Baye ; Salem Mekuria; Zanele Muholi; Malik Nejmi; Cedric Nunn; Nii Obodai; J.D. Okhai Ojeikere; Alfredo Muoz de Oliveira; George Osodi; Zak Ov; Pauliana Pimentel; Malik Sidibe; Aldo Sodoma; Daniele Tamagni; Hank Willis Thomas; Barthlmy Toguo; Michael Tsegaye; and Deb Willis.
