Osun commissioner decries rising cases of rape

Osun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Mofolake Adetoun Adegboyega, has called on parents and guidance to always guide their daughters from inhuman defilement by disgruntled elements in the community.Adegboyega made this call while briefing newsmen on how to forestall the rising cases of rape of female children, as well as women abuses in the society at Osogbo, on Monday.According to her, 'this briefing becomes inevitable because of incessant cases of abuses of children and women in the state and; especially rape cases that have become the order of the day. Within the last few weeks, more than six cases of rape of children had been recorded.'The commissioner, who frowned on this trend, said her ministry had already discovered that most of the people that perpetrated the act were those who could be parents of the affected children. While charging mothers to take proper responsibility of their children, Adegboyega also urged the police to commence the use of the provision in the Child Right Law for cases of rape involving children.'As the state government is completely ready to put an end to this situation, we want to charge our traditional rulers, market women and other stakeholders in the state to join hands with us in curbing this menace in our communities,' she added.
