Medical lab agency starts quality assurance training

THE Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has started a capacity training aimed at equipping stakeholders with skills in the management of laboratories.Registrar, MLSCN, Prof. Anthony Emeribe, said yesterday in Abuja that the participants of the workshop would be awarded the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credit units from the council, which would 'undoubtedly have positive implications for their professional development'.Emeribe urged increased stakeholders' participation in the workshop, which has the theme: 'Essential of laboratory quality management system, practical approach towards implementation'.The registrar maintained that the workshop would cover several modules, including total quality improvement of medical laboratory services, preparation of laboratories for assessment, good clinical laboratory practices and business aspect of laboratory practice.He added: 'As stakeholders in the management of laboratories, Nigerians look up to us to deliver quality service in line with international best practices and building capacity within the sector is one way of meeting such expectation'.The workshop, which will be attended by medical laboratory scientists, technicians, assistants, safety officers, logistics officers, pathologists, quality officers, and laboratory managers, will take place across the six geographical zones in the country at different periods throughout the year.Director of Accreditation, MLSCN, Dr. Lawrena Okoro, noted that the workshops, which would be both intense and hands-on in orientation, would involve highly experienced resource persons leading the participants through 12 quality systems.
