Dansol school organises talent hunt

Published by Guardian on Fri, 15 Apr 2011

FOR  the management of Dansol High School, which recently held year 2011 Talent Hunt/Exhibition Day for its students, stimulating the ingenuity of young people and imbibing entrepreneurial skills in them will continually remain a top priority. With the belief that Nigerian economy would receive a boost and develop to a large extent if many Nigerian youths are equipped with entrepreneurial skills, the School Proprietress, Mrs. Adun Akinyemiju who spoke during the all-exciting event noted that discovering and developing young peoples talents will not only guide them in career choice, but will also redirect their mind from mischievous act to meaningful engagement.According to her, God has deposited in every human being talents of inestimable qualities. It requires a child to ask of God which is most profitable so that he can position himself and make impact, on our part as a school, we have made tremendous marks in the lives of these young ones in bringing out their latent talents, hence the establishment of Talent Hunt Committee to enable us achieve maximum results.Ever since we started in 2002, we are overwhelmed with what our children has done and are still doing. Students are encouraged to showcase their talents thereby challenging their creative abilities, in the process they discover their inner potentials, and we have through Talent Development Trust Fund which was also set up for the programme, supported students who needed financial assistance. We have different workshops, labs and offices where they develop themselves, she added.Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Professor Ayodeji Olukoju, who presented a paper, entitled Your Talent, Your Career, Your Destiny, has earlier urged the young leaders not to neglect the four Gs which he said is inevitable in every success story on their way to discover Talent, Career and Destiny. The four Gs according to him are Gift, Grit, Guts and Grace, the gift you have from God is your talent, your task is to discover and develop it. To fully develop your talent you need Grit, the battling spirit and staying power without which success cannot be achieved; Guts, the boldness of Caleb and David, who defied overwhelming odds to affirm faith in God for victory, and above all, you will need Grace, the grace of God that is available through Jesus Christ. He appealed to parents to allow their children follow their passion in a God-directed way, without interference adding that my father a teachers was not swayed by the sentiments of his lawyer-friend who asked whether I could not find a better course to study, when I was admitted into the Dept of History and Archaeology UNN Nsukka, but history was a subject a loved from secondary school, and I ended up being the best graduating student in my faculty that produced two first class honours in my set.Series of talents and exhibition were displayed at the fun-packed event, which includes the musical group-the dream starz, sculptors, engineers, book writers, designers and lots more. However, Emma Nwachukwu Favour, an SS2 student was the cynosure of all at the event as she was also celebrated and honoured during the launching of her first book titled Reflections.
