Published by Guardian on Fri, 06 Apr 2012

A NEW mobile service to help provide succour to the ever-growing incidences of loss of mobile phones data through theft and other means has hit the Nigerian market with the introduction of MikuyaSafe Mobile Service by Miu Research Limited.MikuyaSafe, according to Miu Research Limited, is an innovative mobile service that offers users complete freedom and flexibility to do a whole lot of stuff on their mobile phones including backing up, organising and managing their mobile phone contents (address book, video, pictures, audio, tasks, appointments, files etc) on a secured server on the web.Accordingly, the SMS backup on Blackberry and Android phones, in the event of phone loss, damage or theft, the content of the phone can be wirelessly and seamlessly restored back to a new phone at the touch of a button.Besides, it was stressed that, should the phone be stolen or lost, the contents can be remotely wiped out and phone locked, adding that, the phone can also be geo-located on a map, thus increasing the chances of phone recovery.According to Head of ICT Projects at Miu Research Limited, Eugene Christopher, the product adds value to mobile phone users.'The headache of replacing a phone goes beyond just purchasing a new handset. Much of the pain caused by losing your phone is not down to the cost of replacing the handset, but the stress of having to replace numbers of friends, families, business contacts, work colleagues, old school friends, church members etc. Most camera phones also store irreplaceable photos, text messages and video thus making the loss of your mobile phone a tragedy. Having understood the challenges facing mobile phone users in managing their mobile life, MikuyaSafe is here to take care of your headaches.'Christopher said the product can help protect all the contacts in the phone even when the SIM of the phone is removed and a new one inserted, the phone would still be traced given the registration of the product. He explained that, with the technology, users can manually or automatically back up not only the contacts saved on both the phone and the SIM card, but also any content stored on their mobile phone. 'In an event of unexpected phone loss, theft or damaged, users can also restore back their content. Users also have the ability to aggregate and manage their entire mobile content in one place. Users can add, edit, delete, de-duplicate (automatic detection of duplicates for manual merging), and create groups of contacts', he added.
