Published by Guardian on Fri, 06 Apr 2012

GLOBAL maker of computer chips, Intel has upgraded the Ultrabook series with its second generation Core processor technology. At the unveiling of the Ultrabook, an ultra-light, ultra-fast and ultra-thin notebook in Lagos at the weekend, the Country Manager, Intel Nigeria, Mr. Bunmi Ekundare, said though there were concerns about whether the world was not in the post PC era due to the proliferation of tablets and smartphones, he maintained that there was still a large section of the world population yet to own PCs.Ekundare, who fumed at the low PC penetration in Nigeria, said the Intel Ultrabook, which marked the new trend in PC manufacturing with its features, would enhance PC penetration globally.According to him, the PC is still growing at a very high rate and 'we feel at Intel that this will continue.''If you look at other devices coming up, the PC still has the highest growth rate,' he said.He explained that, with the second-generation Intel Core processor, Original Equipment Manufacturers like Samsung, Acer, HP and Lenovo could now design and manufacture the Ultrabook, the first of the category of very thin laptops that are expected to rule the PC market henceforth. To the Intel Market Development Manager, Mr. Femi Babajide, who highlighted the special features of the notebook, said aside from high speed processing and reliability, one of the most eye-catching features of the Ultrabook was its extreme portability and flexibility.'There is more to the Ultrabook than impressive engineering and thin components, this represents the future,' he said.According to Babajide, the Ultrabook starts in seven seconds and the idea is to make computers become more exciting, taking on some attributes of smartphones and tablets. He said, 'With Intel Smart Connect Technology in the Ultrabook, users' emails, favourite apps and social networks are continually and automatically updated even when the system is asleep.'No more waiting for the latest world news of friends' updates to be delivered ' just lift the lid and you are up-to-date and ready to go.'One of the most important features of the Ultrabook, Babajide said, was the Intel anti-theft technology, which helped protect users' data by disabling lost or stolen Ultrabooks from anywhere in the world.
