NFL Picks Week 2: Odds and Predictions Against Spread for Entire Schedule

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 19 Sep 2015

It will be a memorable week around the NFL if the rest of Week 2 lives up to the wild standard set by the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night. Of course, matching the final few minutes of that contest won't be an easy task. The game also carried over one of the main storylines from opening weekend: parity. There was a boatload of close games and a couple of upsets. The lack of a truly dominant team or two could make for bunched up standings later in the year, making even these early games vitally important.Let's check out the complete list of remaining matchups for Week 2, including odds and picks against the spread for each. That's followed by a deeper dive into some of the top selections.Week 2 PicksTop SelectionsCarolina PanthersThe Houston Texans are in a difficult spot. They confirmed a change at quarterback as Ryan Mallett will take over under center. Alas, they still remain without running back Arian Foster, their most dynamic offensive weapon, due to a groin injury. Those two factors would make finding chemistry on that side of the ball difficult against any opponent. It's an even taller task against a Panthers defense that ranked 10th in yards allowed last season and held the Jacksonville Jaguars to just nine points in Week 1.Having a mobile quarterback like Cam Newton is also a positive when going up against the offensive coordinators' nightmare known as J.J. Watt. It won't completely neutralize his impact, but Newton's ability to escape the pocket should come in handy and help move the chains. This has the feel of a low-scoring game, and though the Texans should improve offensively as the year goes on, there are too many question marks to like their chances against a stout defense. The Panthers should pull away in the second half.Philadelphia EaglesThe Eagles were doomed by a forgettable first half against the Atlanta Falcons last week. The positive signs they showcased during the second 30 minutes, especially from new quarterback Sam Bradford, give hope for Week 2 and beyond, though.Philadelphia can also expect to get more production from its ground game after DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews both averaged barely over a year per carry in the opener. Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports further explained why fans should be bullish on the Eagles:On the flip side, the Dallas Cowboys will be forced to replace Dez Bryant as he recovers from a foot injury. The problem is they don't have another go-to receiver they can count on in crucial spots, whether it be on third down or the red zone, which makes Tony Romo's job exponentially harder.Expect the Eagles to build off their second-half showing to put together a much more complete performance this week. And, without Bryant on the field, it's hard to imagine the Cowboys having enough firepower to keep pace.Buffalo BillsFacing the New England Patriots is a major statement game for the Bills. Yes, they are coming off an impressive showing against the Indianapolis Colts. But if they want to emerge as legitimate contenders in the AFC, beating their reigning-champion division rivals at home is a must.Buffalo sure isn't shying away from the task under new head coach Rex Ryan. Being more boisterous is a significant change of approach from the franchise's previous regimes, and the Bills' players are following in their coach's footsteps, as Dan Hanzus of NFL.com noted."I mean, nobody likes the Patriots," defensive tackle Marcell Dareus said. "Let's be honest about it, put it out there."The question is whether Tyrod Taylor, who's always going to make a few key plays with his legs, can make enough clutch throws from the pocket. He did in Week 1, and if that trend continues, the Bills will definitely be a playoff contender given their top-tier defense.Tom Brady will find much tougher sledding against the Buffalo defensive unit than he did against a mistake-prone Pittsburgh Steelers group last week. That should keep the Bills in the game, and Taylor and Co. will do enough to get the win.
