Miss Inter-Global Pageant' Platform For Women's Cause

COME May 18 and 19, 2012, the city of Uyo, Aka Ibom State will come alive with the Miss Inter-Global Nigeria 2012. Organised by International Style Weeks, the event is scheduled to hold at the Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, the Miss Inter-Global Nigeria is a beauty contest for young Nigerian women between 16 and 26 years old.The Pageant President, Mr. Bassey Essien at a media briefing in Lagos stated that the event is to celebrate Nigerian women and give the winner the opportunity to not only represent Nigeria at the global finals, but to equally become an ambassador, spokesperson for the sponsors, and role model to millions of young women in Nigeria.Essien stated that Miss Inter-Global Nigeria Winner would also be used as a platform to create greater awareness and advocacy towards reducing the incidence of infant and maternal mortality, human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women, and teenage pregnancy in Nigeria.Essien described the initiative as a new beginning for Miss Inter-Global Pageant, which was formally called Miss Commonwealth. 'We decided to change the name because the pageant will be fighting more cause on humanitarian aspect geared towards young women in our society. This is not going to be like every other beauty pageant that is mostly particular about who wears the crown but more on who is the woman wearing the crown, a woman of high intellectual capacity to run a mission of passion to save women from the grass root, who can be a role model of emulation to other women in finding their way to be a first class citizen, no matter the odds and circumstances.'According to him, the queen that wears the crown will represent Nigeria at the Miss Global International, Kingston, Jamaica, September 2012. 'We don't just want the emerged winner of Miss Inter-Global Queen to be just a celebrity but also someone that can fight towards the course of saving womanhood from every exploitation going on especially in our society. Which is why we have developed a platform for young beautiful women to explore opportunities and purpose associated with beauty in order to tackle global issues with support from numerous organisations ready and willing to fight along with us,' he stressed.President of Forum of South-South Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture, Prince Billy Gillis-Harry stated the involvement of the Chambers of Commerce in this project, saying it is to also advocating a stop to the scourge of all sort of exploitation towards young women that is becoming a tradition in our society.The project, he explained, is going to serve as a call on every member of public to treat every citizen with respect and thus work against exploitative vices. 'We don't just want to have a queen without efficiency, which is why we are putting everything in place for productive vision. The objective of the project is to equip the queen by increasing her self confidence, engage her in community service and leadership skills' acquisition in order for her to carry out the vision effectively,' he said.
