Abuja Christians mark Easter amidst tight security

Security was beefed up around churches in Abuja, on Sunday, as Christians marked this year's Easter celebration.To that effect, church services were held under tight security in many worship centres, even as security operatives manned many streets to forestall security breach.Private security guards complemented the efforts of the security agencies in the churches visited, and frisked worshipers with metal detectors and a few other gadgets before being allowed into the church premises.As was the case in the city centre, satellite towns were not spared, as recreation centres were also protected.Nigerian Tribune, which monitored the situation, noted that among churches in Kubwa which witnessed tight security included the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Federal Housing and Rhema Deliverance Mission Incorporated, located on Kubwa-Suleja expressway.Reports were equally the same from RCCG Wuse 2, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama and Church of Advent, Life Camp.Checks by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the tight security could have followed the step by the acting Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, who directed all zonal assistant inspectors-general of police and commissioners of police to deploy policemen in churches as, according to security sources, intelligence suggested threat to lives and property on the festive day.Meanwhile, fun-seekers defied the security threats to throng recreation centres and eateries for fun.Maitama Amusement Park; Drumstix Wuse II; Chester Fries, Chicken n Sides, Mr Biggs, all in Kubwa, as well Millennium Park, Maitama, were also bubbling when the Nigerian Tribune visited.Fun-seekers interviewed said they believed that all was well security wise and had to leave homes for outdoor activities.
