NO fewer than 20 people were serious injured and 10 shops vandalised when members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) at Omi-Adio, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, clashed with some hoodlums at Ita Faaji area of Wire and Cable area of Owode, Apata.Armed OPC members, numbering about 30, had stormed the Ita Faaji junction at about 6.00 p.m with weapons like charms, cutlasses, matchets, clubs and locally-made guns, on Sunday evening, threatening a showdown with the hoodlums.According to eyewitness, during the stampede that lasted for about 20 minutes, no fewer than 15 people, including female traders, okada riders and passers-bye, got wounded. An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune on Monday that after the stampede, OPC members descended on the hoodlums, leaving at least 10 of the boys with varying degrees of injuries. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olabisi Okuwobi, said it was not a clash. She said a member of the OPC had gone to separate a fight, saying that only one was in the hospital. She said one person was arrested but later released with surety, because the law did not allow that a suspect be detained more than 24 hours.
