Why there is bombing in Nigeria - Labour

Published by Tribune on Tue, 10 Apr 2012

ORGANISED labour in the country has condemned the bomb blasts that occurred at Sardauna Crescent, close to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, in Kaduna State and that of Easter Sunday night at a drinking joint in the Tudun Wada area of Jos, Plateau State, saying government's failure to deliver on promises is responsible for high rate of insecurity in the country.Worried by the spate of bombings in the country, labour said the government of Nigeria must review the nation's security network to minimise the high rate of insecurity in the country.Labour, in a statement signed by the acting general secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Owei Lakemfa and that of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), John Kolawole, noted that there was urgent need for government to review the nation's security network, to meet with the demands of the current security challenges. Also, the Joint Action Front (JAF), in a statement signed by its general secretary, Abiodun Aremu, said government's failure to deliver on electoral promises were the root cause of violence and insecurity in the country. The two labour bodies said 'the news of bomb explosions in Kaduna and Jos, which claimed many lives and destroyed properties suggest that some people are determined to undermine the needed peaceful co-existence and national security of Nigeria and so, there is urgent need for the government to review the nation's security network, implement the security strategies that would minimise the high rate of insecurity and to meet with the demands of the current security challenges in the country.
