Fire renders 100 families homeless in Ilorin

A fire outbreak in the early hours of last Wednesday at Alaro Compound, Gambari road, Ilorin, lasting for several hours, had rendered over 100 families homeless in the area.The inferno, which began about 4:30 a.m., took the combined efforts of officers and men of the state fire service and sympathisers several hours to put out.Eyewitness account said that the fire started immediately the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) restored power supply in the area.The fire outbreak reportedly began in one of the extension rooms before affecting three other shops and several rooms in the building. The affected residents and shop owners were, however, able to salvage their property from the inferno.The ruins of damaged property belonging to the victims still littered the ground as at time of visiting the area.Over 100 families affected in the early morning inferno are now seeking refuge with their neighbours, while others are now staying in mosques within the area.Some of the victims, who spoke in emotion laden voices, described their condition as pathetic as they did not have any belonging apart from their clothes.The victims, therefore, solicited urgent assiatance from the state and local government so that they could continue to live their normal life.However, the Special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Emergency and Relief Matters, Alhaji Musa Abdulahi, who visited the area, described the fire outbreak as unfortunate and promised the victims prompt attention of the state government.The governor's aide, who was accompanied by some members of the state emergency services, inspected the affected buildings.
