Ibadan: Bashorun residents lament poor electricity supply

RESIDENTS of Basorun area in Ibadan, have lamented the continued withholding of electricity supply to the area, saying the socio-economic activities in the area are presently at comatose.The community dwellers said it was not good enough to be operating in darkness when there is an agency of the government saddled with the responsibility of distributing electricity to the community.A resident of Basorun, Mrs Elizabeth Aderonke Ogunsola, told Community News that the people of Ibadan should help them beg the management of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in charge of the zone to find an amicable solution to whatever problem might be responsible for the irregular supply of electricity to the zone.Another resident of the area, Mr Tola Elufidiya, explained that electricity supply to Basorun has not been regular for the past five weeks, adding that every attempt made by concerned residents of the area to correct the problem have not yielded fruitful results.He further explained that the management of PHCN in charge of the zone had not been forthcoming in correcting the anomaly.Other residents of the area also lamented the bad condition of electricity supply to Basorun community, stressing that it was frustrating that for over three weeks, socio-economic activities in the areas had gone to zero level. They, however, appealed to the management of PHCN in the state to find a solution to the problem.Meanwhile, people living at Akobo, Ojurin, Iyana Ketu, Iyana Akala, as well as Iyana Church, also wanted an appreciable improvement in the electricity supply to their communities.Their complaint was that it would be an injustice on the part of PHCN for them to be paying electricity bills as consumers without the management of PHCN fulfilling their own part of agreement of regular supply of power to their areas.The residents, therefore, tasked the PHCN authority in the state to help them enjoy their stay in their different communities by having access to regular electricity supply.
