Online trading records steady growth, says expert

Published by Guardian on Sat, 16 Apr 2011

EXPERTS in online trading and regional manager for Dealfish.com.ng, Francis Ebuehi has said that business transactions online have witnessed steady growth in the last five months following the launch of the online market place. He said that recent Alexa ranking showed upward improvement, even as Dealfish.com.ng brings access to online market via phones to further ease access to the market. Speaking in Lagos recently, Ebuehi said: From recent statistics, we have moved up on the Alexa ranking, an indicator used to gauge site performance and find out how your web site traffic stacks up against all competitors. As at March 10, Dealfish.com.ng was ranked 86 in Nigeria and 28,454 in the world. This is quite an achievement for a company that did not exist until five months ago. We have over 21,000 listings, 1.5 million monthly page views and 350,000 monthly new visitors. The statistical hint of huge traffic recorded by the site, is an indication that Nigerians are eager to join the rest of the world that had embraced the culture of borderless commerce much earlier. The online classifieds business has to do with changing the basic Nigerian impression about the Internet and the way of traditionally doing business. We have the experience in other global markets in the emerging economies. We aim to bring that global expertise to our local environment. He further said visitors to Dealfish.com.ng are not mere surfers, rather actively in search of closing the best deals by either putting up ads or trying to get best buys of cars, property, among others. Dealfish.com.ng is an online market place where people can buy and sell goods like cars, computers, clothes, phones, houses, etc. You can also post vacancies on our site and applicants can search for jobs also. People can also advertise about upcoming events, seminars, church programmes and much more. It is more or less an online classified ads company where we provide the enabling trusted environment where buyers meet sellers. The online market place is available on internet-enabled PCs as well as phones. With an estimated 50 per cent telephone penetration, and the bandwidth expansion for carrying quantum data following the emergence of MainOne Cable Company and Globacoms cable company to join NITELs SAT-3, the offering is set to gain vast accessibility.Dealfish.com.ng has made its platform available on mobile phones. We are currently fine-tuning the release of our SMS offering, which will enable customers interact with the Dealfish platform via SMS. We have created apps for the Symbian phones and are currently in talks with Nokia to make the app available in the Nokia OVI store. We are currently developing an android application for this market as well, he added.
