Corruption, cause of Nigeria's underdevelopment

HIGH-level corruption has been identified as being responsible for Nigeria's underdevelopment and growing crimes rates.A chairmanship aspirant from Yagba West Local Government area of Kogi State, Mrs Janet Makun, disclosed this to newsmen during her 60th birthday celebration in Lokoja on Monday.The human rights activist cum legal practitioner posited that the present insecurity in Nigeria was as a result of the corrupt practices of some public officers.She noted that until the Federal Government, led by President Goodluck Jonathan, had the courage and will to fight corruption head-on, there would be no end to the country's woes.Mrs Makun, who wondered how an individual would steal billions of naira, particularly that of a vulnerable group like pensioners and still walked the streets as free men, called for stringent punishment for such criminals.The legal luminary said those involved in this criminal activities were bad influence on the younger ones who now saw stealing as the fastest way of acquiring
