N/Delta group carpets ACN over comment on renovation of Bayelsa church

A coalition of Niger Delta Ethnic and Civil Society Groups (UNDEEDS), on Monday, in Lagos, berated the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) over what it described as uncomplimentary remarks on President Goodluck Jonathan over the renovation of Anglican Church in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by a construction firm.It described the renovation of the church as the social responsibility of the construction firm to its host community.The group, in a statement signed by its secretary-general, Tony Uranta, said it was wrong on the part of the leadership of ACN to call for impeachment of the president based on the company's gesture.The ACN had called on the National Assembly to commence an impeachment process against President Jonathan, but the group submitted in a statement that there was nothing wrong in the gesture, noting the commercial activities of some of these companies in the region.The statement pointed out that the firm was not the first company to carry out such responsibility. It said the company had carried out similar renovation elsewhere in the region and in other parts of the country.
