Agbado residents prepare for coming rains

Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Meiran area, Agbado Oke-Odo Local Development Council Area of Lagos State, have, as a way preventing flooding in the area, mobilised residents to clear drainages in the area.The residents in the area had terrible experience last year when the area was submerged by flood.Some landlords and tenants in the area had to abandon their homes for weeks due to the flooding.To prevent a reoccurrence of the experience, residents last Saturday, came out enmass to clear the drainages and water ways to ensure free flow of water during downpour. Speaking with Community News on the development, Alhaji Suraju Adebayo, a leader in the area said he had to abandon his house last year for weeks when the area was flooded. 'To prevent a re-occurrence of the situation, we have to take our destiny in their our and clear the water ways to allow free passage of water during the coming rainy season.'When Community News visited the area on Saturday, workers were seen refixing collapsed drainages.'We are preparing for the coming rainy season. The Commissioner of Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, at a press conference in Alausa, had told Lagosians to get ready for the rains, like we witnessed last year, so we don't want to be caught unawares, hence our decision to clear the blockages and other hindrances,' a resident told Community News.Again, the CDA also educated members on how to disposed off their waste, stating that blockage of water way was mainly due to ways and manner people disposed off refuse.
