As the striking workers in Oyo State resumed into their various offices after a three-week old strike, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Akinyele Local Government area of the state, Mr Mukaila Abiola Ambali, has appealed to the people in the state to be law abiding by paying their taxes regularly with a view to enabling the present administration led by Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi achieve its set objective.Mr Ambali who made this call in an interview with Community News in Ibadan, the state capital, said government alone could not shoulder the responsibilities, urging the workers too to complement government's efforts in turning around the state for better.According to him, 'we are so lucky to have a God-fearing governor, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi in this state. You can see some improvements in governance now. In a bid to curb corruption, he said all offices should be tiled as against the use of rug which our people used to change annually as a way of siphoning public funds. So, we need to support someone with this kind of initiatives, workers need to give him their total support, especially in the area of tax and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.'While appreciating governor Ajimobi for ensuring that people of his local government felt his administration's impact, especially in the area of road construction, the chairman said one of the four newly kicked-off roads by the governor in the area had been abandoned for the past 20 years by the previous governments in the state. The chairman, therefore, said efforts had reached an advanced stage by the council to complement the government's efforts by kicking-off construction of 12 new blocks of three classrooms in all the wards in the area this week, because some of them were dilapidated and not conducive for learning anymore.'We want to make learning environment more conducive for our pupils. The schools are old; some were built 70 years ago, so we are planning to improve on facilities we met on ground. We want to improve on education, good road network, rural integration, potable water as well as health care delivery and salary of workers would also be paid as at when due, so this our priorities,' he promised.
